How to Prepare for the Initial Consultation with Your Family Law Attorney
Potential clients often ask what they should bring to the initial consultation. It is helpful if the client has a general understanding of the parties’ financial background such as, income of the parties, outstanding debt and monthly living expenses. Often during the first consultation the client will receive a lot of information about the divorce process and the division of assets as well as custody and support. It is also useful for the potential client to write down a few questions in advance of their first appointment regarding their concerns, responsibilities and goals. Additionally, records such as tax returns, paystubs, mortgage statements and account information can be very useful during the initial consultation.
